Colorado Mammoth fans voted, and Jeff Wittig won the 2019 Fan Choice Award.
The Mammoth rookie made his mark on the turf in the 2018-19 regular season as a fearless, physical and, yes, sometimes downright "dirty" scorer.
The Mammoth signed the 21-year-old as a free agent in September 2018. After Mammoth training camp, Wittig joined the team as a practice player, at first. His debut on the active roster finally came on March 9: Colorado Night. In his first career game, Wittig tallied two goals against the San Diego Seals and added two helpers for a total of four points.
In eight games played in 2018-19, the left-handed forward scored eight goals, most of them highlight-reel worthy, and added 13 assists for a total of 21 points.
“His energy was relentless and never ending,” said Mammoth play-by-play analyst Teddy Jenner. “He came in like a meteor. His pure passion for the game made him an instant Mammoth fan-favorite.”
Before Wittig became a professional box lacrosse player, the St. Catharines, ON native spent five seasons starring on the St. Catharines Athletics Junior A club. Two of Wittig’s Mammoth teammates, Dan Coates and Ian Llord, are also former A’s.
This summer season, Wittig is a forward for the Brooklin Redmen, a Major Series Lacrosse club.
