This Saturday, at the start of the NLL playoffs, the Colorado Mammoth and the Calgary Roughnecks will clash in the West Division Semifinal, their tenth postseason battle as franchises.
A Mammoth win on Saturday would be their second-straight Division Semifinal win. Last season, the Mammoth edged the Stealth in a 13-12 victory, ending a Semifinal losing streak that had spanned nine seasons.
A Mammoth win on Saturday would also be the team’s first postseason victory against the Roughnecks in 11 seasons. The Mammoth won the West Division Final over the Roughnecks for the first and only time in 2006. That season, Colorado conquered Calgary 18-17 in overtime and went on to win the NLL Championship.
Before facing off against their Rocky Mountain rivals once again this weekend, the Mammoth are preparing by focusing inward rather than outward toward their opponents.
“Our focus has to be squarely on us and what we have to do to put ourselves in the best position to succeed,” said Mammoth Head Coach Pat Coyle. “We need to continually focus on the process; to focus on our compete level and the rest will take care of itself. The previous 18 games this season have all been opportunities to learn and grow, good and bad. This weekend will tell us how good of students we are.”
