Mammoth Name McBride, Williams as Assistant Coaches

The Colorado Mammoth today announced that Andrew McBride and Shawn Williams have joined the organization as assistant coaches; McBride as the defensive coordinator and Williams as the offensive coordinator.

Mammoth Head Coach Pat Coyle said, “I’m really excited to have Shawn and Andrew join me on the bench. I was lucky enough to call them both teammates at different times in my career. I also had the opportunity to compete against them both for years. They were both excellent team guys, always putting their teams needs ahead of their own. They were also both hard competitors and two guys that their teams really wanted to go to war with. And finally, they are both winners who have won multiple championships. I expect them to bring all those qualities to the Mammoth and there is no doubt in my mind they will.”

McBride, a Ladner, BC native, comes to Colorado after concluding his 13-year NLL career in 2015.

“Colorado is a world-class city and organization,” said McBride. “I have immense respect for Dan Carey and Pat Coyle and I can’t thank them enough for this amazing opportunity.”

McBride spent his entire career in Calgary as a defenseman, leading the Roughnecks as captain for five seasons. Twice an NLL champion (2004, 2009) and twice an NLL All-Star (2008, 2011), McBride amassed 87 career points (19G, 68A) and 711 career loose balls in 198 regular season games; he also holds the franchise record for regular-season games played.

McBride said, “It has been a life-long dream of mine to coach the best lacrosse players in the world. I look forward to working tirelessly to bring a championship to the Mile High City and the Mammoth organization.”

Williams joins the Mammoth organization after retiring from a 17-year professional career in 2015.

“My family is honored, grateful and humbled for the opportunity to be a part of such a prestigious and first-class organization in the Colorado Mammoth. Thank you, Dan and Pat, for this opportunity.”

In 257 games, the former NLL Ironman became a league record-holder, now sitting at fourth in games played (257), seventh in points (1,152), eighth in goals (708), and sixth in assists (708) in NLL history. Williams won two NLL championships, the first with Toronto in 1999 and the second with the Knighthawks in 2007. He is a six-time All-Star and received the 2010 NLL Sportsmanship Award.

Williams said, “I hope to contribute anything and everything that the Mammoth organization needs, from knowledge and experience, to passion for the game and life.”

Mammoth General Manager Dan Carey said, “Both Shawn and Andrew are ultra-competitive. They have won at the highest level, and understand the commitment it takes to win championships. Most importantly, they are great people who will fit into our team chemistry.”
