The Colorado Mammoth announced today that they have acquired left-handed defenseman Ian Llord from the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for 22-year-old defenseman Rowan Kelly and a third-round pick in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft.
Thirty-three-year-old Llord was originally selected by the Buffalo Bandits in the fourth-round, 42nd overall, of the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, but made his career debut with the Philadelphia Wings in 2007.
The St. Catharines, Ontario native is a 13-season NLL veteran, and, most recently, has played seven seasons with the Knighthawks, including two championship-winning seasons in 2013 and 2014. In his 185 regular-season appearances, Llord has amassed 649 loose balls and 88 caused turnovers. He has also posted 71 points, tallying 19 goals and 52 assists.
Last season, Llord appeared in 18 games for the Knighthawks, scoring two goals and four assists, as well as recovering 71 loose balls and forcing 10 caused turnovers. This season, Llord is on his way to beat his numbers from 2018. In nine games for Rochester, Llord has come up with 24 loose balls and has forced 8 caused turnovers.
Llord is a player experienced in winning championships at many levels. Playing for the St. Catharines Athletics in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse league before beginning his NLL career, Llord helped his team win the Junior "A" Minto Cup, their second Minto Cup win in three years, in his second year on the roster (2003).
Llord has also won five Mann Cups in the Major Series Lacrosse league; one in his rookie season with Brampton Excelsiors (2007), two, back-to-back, with Six Nations Chiefs (2013-14), and two, back-to-back, with Peterborough Lakers (2017-18).
In 2014, Llord accomplished the rare feat of clinching three championship cups in one season, winning the NLL Champion's Cup with the Knighthawks, the Mann cup with Six Nations Chiefs and the Senior "B" President's Cup with St. Catharines Saints.
Llord will make his first appearance with the Mammoth in Calgary, Alberta this Saturday as the Mammoth take on the Calgary Roughnecks for the second time this season. The Mammoth’s contest against the Roughnecks is slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Fans can watch a live-stream of the game on Bleacher Report Live.
The Mammoth will return to Pepsi Center on Saturday, March 23 to take on the Vancouver Warriors during their Military Appreciation game presented by AAA Service and Plumbing, Budweiser, and Phantom K9, scheduled for 7 p.m. at Pepsi Center. Tickets are available now at AltitudeTickets.com.
