Hey Steve,

I'm psyched about getting Jim Moss playing for us now! I remember him and the great job he did defending Gary Gait a few years back...I'm glad he's not playing against us any more. :-)

How did the trade come about? Were the Stealth shopping him around since he hasn't played this year, or did you approach them about the possibility of a trade?

Thanks for your time!

-Jesse

We had heard rumblings in the offseason that Jim was unhappy in San Jose and were immediately interested. As the season neared and the NLL draft passed we continued discussions with the SJ management team with really nothing coming to pass.

We visited San Jose in the pre season and had very productive discussions about Jim and thought we were close to making a deal happen but again not able to get over the hump.

San Jose was very adamant that they wanted a player of quality, they also did not want Jim in the western division where he could come back into SJ and hurt them, they also certainly didn't want him with us.

Jim was traded to Chicago conditionally and did not report, we attempted to work with Chicago to make Jim a Mammoth but again could not make it work for both teams. As there was an expiration date on the condition for Jim to report, we worked with Chicago right up to that time but the deadline passed without a deal and his rights reverted back to San Jose.

We fully expected that the deal with them was dead and that he would report and play there. He was put on their active roster but did not dress. Apparently their issues were larger than we had anticipated. As time passed, Jim had shown he was not willing to play in the east and was sitting out in San Jose, a deal we felt would be immenent with someone in the west.

Having made generous offers to both SJ and Chicago over the past few months with no fruit we felt that our efforts were out of the mix so we moved on with the team that we had. The SJ management team contacted us recently to rekindle discussions and we were eager to get something done but our price had significantly decreased from where we were originally.

They asked for Andrew Burkholder and we reluctantly obliged after Taylor and Cornfield had stepped up in the #3 lefty spot. Burky, a wonderful addition to the team in 06 in our run towards the championship, still was eager to play and was not getting the chance with us this season. The timing was right and the opportunity for both teams to move forward with a win/win situation made it possible for both of us.

We are happy to have Jim and are excited to see him play tonight in his first game with the Mammoth. He brings a great deal of versatility and can play both offense and defense and run the floor in transistion. He also brings a level of toughness that this team has lacked in the past. Our hope is that he will contribute right away.
