Hey Steve,
Since there is no ask the coach, I though I'd as you. What reason was given to Hammer for disallowing Trees behind the net beauty in the last game against Minny? I'm curious becuase while some of us (OK, MOST of us) were angry at the "blown" overturn... we had also discussed that maybe they had said that his stick hit the netminder. Not even sure if that rule exists anymore, but I'd like to know what reason they gave for the wave off. Thanks.

Initially, the goal was disallowed by the official on the play, I can only assume by the timing of the "wave off" that the official making the call didn't see the ball behind the goal line until after Brian had landed in the crease. The ball seemed to "hang" in the netting and his view was somewhat obscured by the goaltender, therefore he waves it off.

Hammer challenged the call and upon review, I beleive, three angles were shown, the camera shot from behind the net never showed Brian's feet, so that had to be thrown out, the angle from directly above had Brian's foot near the crease initially obscured by his body so you couldn't tell if he had stepped in then back out when he jumped, he had to throw that out. Then there was a longer range angle that looked to show it all but was far away, I think that was only viewed once.

We beleive it was waved off because of the ball crossing the goal line before Brian landed, that was answered positively by the video tape, but the issue of the foot on the line couldn't be answered. The difficulty with that particular challenge was that we couldn't know why the official waved it off and the challenge opens up every aspect of the goal and it must show conclusively that it was good based on all criteria.

We felt it was a good goal and thought there was enough to overturn the call on the field but ultimately we understand the position that the official was in. The video has to be conclusive and there really wasn't enough to say that it was. Tough break, lucky we didn't need it to get into the playoffs!!!!

Thanks, exactly what I needed to know. wasn't that important in the grand scheme of things... more curiosity than anything.
