Mr. Govett,

I am not sure if anybody has asked this in the past, but does the NLL review game tapes and assess fines/suspensions for high hits or other dangerous play like other leagues automatically or is there a way to request that they look at a certain game? It looked to me like New York was consistently high on Carey all game and now we hear that he is out indefinitely with a head injury. With it being common knowledge that he had a problem with concussions last year, that seemed to be intentional.

Thanks for your time and let me know what you think.

Every game tape is reviewed by the League. Brian Lemon, VP of Lacrosse Operations, is very thorough when it comes to reviewing every play and every call of every game.

Brian reviews every major penalty and assesses whether that call should be upgraded or downgraded depending on the severity. I think he does an outstanding job of protecting both the players and the referees.

Teams can submit requests for review on any play regardless of a penalty call or not. Lemon will review those calls and assess penalties after the fact if necessary. In the New York game alone the Mammoth requested two reviews for high hits to Dan Carey.

The high hits to the head have been a pressure issue for me for the last few seasons. Obviously with the loss of Jalbert and others to concussions, I am trying to make this a priority among our League's administration and ownership. I truly believe that when the PLPA begins to take a stand against hits to the head that is when we will make some real progress.
