Hey Steve,

Quick question for you. Where did all of the SNL/Tommy Boy/etc snippets go from last year? I've heard reasons (ie rumors) but to hear it straight from the Man would be the best way to hear it! Thanks for your time.

This one is a tough one to swallow for me but necessary nonetheless.

You will notice that we play music throughout our games, during play and during breaks. In order to be allowed to play the music all arenas and their teams must pay a licensing fee to a company called ASCAP/BMI. This company is a clearing house for all music and distributes their fees to the entertainers in the form of roylaties for using their songs. The fee is a nominal one and Kroenke Sports pays this fee on behalf of the Pepsi Center and all its teams. This is why we are allowed to use whatever music we want.

Video is another story. the fees for the video licensing are astronomically expensive. To the extent that some clips exceed $10,000 per use. KSE has used the clips in the past without the licensing payment and has been warned to stop or we will be fined by the FCC. As a company we have decided not to put ourselves in that position again for any of our teams.

You may notice that there are some clips used in Nuggets games. These are very specific and limited. The NBA as a league decided to pay the licensing fee for certain clips that could be used league wide in every building for NBA games.

Next time you see the clip from the movie Network, "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore", at a Nuggets game you will know why.

One of our ideas at the Mammoth was to have our fans submit video clips to our websites with their best "Cowbell" impersonation, or "Peanut Butter Jelly" dance, and we would play it in place of the real video. I thought it would be very funny to see fans up on the jumbotron acting out their favorite movie clip. Imagine Voodoo in a banana suit doing "Peanut Butter Jelly"!!!

How would I get the top hat on the banana suit? Although if anyone wants to play with photoshop, you're more than welcome :)

Dearest Voodoo,
You now have a banana costume. And a bat.... I felt like the bat was necessary. it looks crappy, but i think it's entertaining.

Is there any truth to the rumor that it was the Roughnecks who, basically, ratted out the Pepsi Center?

Steve,

If ASCAP fees are reasonable, I see no reason to deprive us of you're fine, fine singing voice... will we get to hear you're Valentine's Day crooning this year. It was the highlight of all clips for me.

I am never quite sure what the game entertainment crew is going to pull out of the vaults at the Pepsi Center.

You just never know when I might be singing the Pina Coloada song again in public!
