Ya, I'm sure the reason that the greatest player in the NLL left for a big deal at his Alma Mater was because of a potential failure in the CBA negotiations. Was Gait on the executive committee? Was Gait an owner? Was Gait at all invested in the CBA negotiations? C'mon

If the NLL was incompetent, they would have continued to operate with teams that were barely afloat. It is a good move to rethink the business model, albeit a strike happened, these things happen in sports. The NLL will be back, and it will be better than ever

rerender does bring up a point that i thought bout today

did Gary see this coming and bail at the right moment?

ok bail might be a little harsh but he did put himself in position to stay employed and get good benefits

Why did it have to break completely before they relized it was a crappy model? Every one **** about it and knew about it but no one did anything to fix it. Why should we believe them know? They had how many off seasons to work on the model? You telling me no one had time to work on it in how many years?

Just for official notification, I am sticking around. If the league comes back in 09, I will be there in the CAVE. I will sit there alone if need be. But I will be there.

I will support my Mammoth, my Harleys and my Wildbunch.

As we all know, I like my rose colored glasses and therefore have already put in my decision for tickets next season. As I've said before, we bleed Maroon and Black and we will continue to support the Mammoth organization.

I am all about the Marmots, doesn't mean I have to respect the NLL. Our org can not control anything other than our org. Until big brother gets past the cranial rectal inversion who knows what I am doing. My wife is ready to go somewhere with a bat and start swinging though.

Well, the only thing we can really say atm is that we're waiting to see what the info will be from the Mammoth regarding season ticket refunds.

Beyond that? I'm not guaranteeing anything.

Yeah, I got mine a few hours ago too. It's too bad we didn't have the option of "Keep your seats and amuse yourself on game night" I think we could have come up with some fun stuff! Oh the pain, I'm only trying to laugh through it...

Excellent idea! Who needs the NLL! We'll rent out the Pepsi center and play LAX 101 in there. I'm sure if we all chipped in we could cover the thousands of Dollars it would cost us to rent, I know I have a dollar in my desk somewhere...

I imagine that Gait probably gets enough sponsorship money to keep him and his family stable, so I don't think that the possibility of the NLL going on strike would have really affected him that much. Head coaches probably don't make that much anyways.

With the PLPA, as in any sport, the players and owners have to agree on a majority of things that make everyone happy and promotes a successful league. Having a CBA 4 times in 7 years shows the inability of the players and the league to get along in a way that would be beneficial to the NLL. I place equal blame on the league office and the players for this. Eventually this had to boil over and now the NLL is at a point where enough is enough, hence a strict deadline. This seems to be one of those things where an example needs to be made. Now they have a year to map the future of the NLL and try to iron out a deal that can re-establish the sport. Clean off the chalkboard and start from scratch.

I admire your optimism but they aren't going to get together in a big circle and talk about what bothers each other for an entire year and "change the model". Right now they are all going to go and pout for 3 months, then they will point fingers at each other for 6 months, finally they will get scared, about loosing another(and possiably their last) season and then they will try to hammer something out. Not 12 months 3. Doubt me. Watch how quiet the NLL will get here in a week or 2.

In the end the NLL is doomed.

I may be naive and optimistic but I would much rather think of those involved as intelligent, well-meaning individuals who love the game and want to see the NLL continue.

Do I believe there's a chance that this is it for the league? Of course, however, I would prefer to think otherwise and will continue to bleed Mammoth colors because I love this game and I love this team. And perhaps the league will come out stronger with those who aren't supportive out of the picture.

Intelligent, well-meaning individuals probably could have headed this off at the pass.

Intelligent and well-meaning does not = compromise. As Mr. Govett said, there was a huge trust issue and without trust, you aren't going to get a compromise as both sides feel like they're getting the short end of the stick.

This is one of those agree to disagree situations. You mention individuals, but the NLL is not individual. The owners are a team, the league office is a team, and the players are a team. They couldn't agree on the CBA so now that have time to re-evaluate the short-falls in the league.

Changes will take time, the they will play next season. I expect that major changes will be made in the NLL. This is day one, time will tell and I have faith in the pro sports system that if something fails, smart people will step up and fix it.

and a year of missed revenue is going to help this trust how?

Compromise is what make a deal. It is human nature to want as much as you can get. A company want as mush as it can get for a little as it can pay for it. A median price is set and agreed on and business gets done.

In the end the NLL and the players association are hurting themselves by not somehow collecting this years revenues.

smaller pie for them to argue over next year. Do you think the players will somehow want less and the NLL will somehow want to give more? They should have compromised yesterday before they put the existence of the league in peril.

Look maybe your right. Maybe this will be good for everyone. But at this point their selfishness is cutting into my Friday and Saturday nights.
