This may be more appropriate to ask Altitude, but thought I would check with you to see if you had any insight. Currently, Altitude is able to broadcast Nuggets and Avalanche games in HD so why not the Mammoth? Any word on if they will be switching over to the HD cameras for any of our games this year?

Good question.

In order to present games in High Definition it requires a significantly increased cost, this increased cost is difficult to justify based on the minute amount of revenue generated by our partners at Altitude for Mammoth broadcasts.

In order to provide our fans with more Mammoth coverage we have decided to stretch the budget as far as we can by opting to present more games instead of presenting fewer games in HD.

I realize it is not an ideal situation but one that we felt was necessary to provide the greatest possible coverage to our great fans. Sorry.

Steve,

I have a question regarding the HD and camera equipment (kind of a twofor from the other post).

Does each team (ie Nugs, Avs, Mammoth, etc) provide their own video equipment for the games? If so, would it be possible to 'borrow' their equipment for the Mammoth games to cut costs? I would love to have an over the net shot similar to hockey to see if the ball crosses the crease. That would assist in the close ones. Thoughts? Thanks.

As I understand the process of HD production, it is not so much the cameras and camera support equipment, it is the use of the truck to process the picture once delivered from the cameras.

All of the KSE/Altitude teams share Altitude owned equipment, but they do not own the truck that sends the feeds to the satellites that brings it to your homes. The HD truck is significantly more expense to use than a regular tv truck.

This is the main source of the increased cost not so much the cameras. I also beleive that the transmission of an HD signal is more expensive, this is not something that can be mitigated.

Altitude does use overhead shots on a regular basis for the Mammoth as well as the Avalanche. I love this feature but unfortuantely the referees don't get to use this one!!!!!

Hope that answers your question!!
