I know that there are some fans who think that the refs are ALWAYS wrong....I believe that they are human. But it is remarkable to me, that I can't think of ONE ref that when I see him on the field I get a warm, fuzzy feeling and believe that he is "good". I realize the game is fast....and now we even have instant replay to assist in making improved calls....but I honestly cannot say that it is "better". Too many times in games (and not just Mammoth games) the officials seem to become a "part of the game" versus simply "officiating the game".

Mr. Govett: Is there a better way?

I will tell you that as Chairman of the Competition Committee in the NLL we work very hard to make the officiating more consistent. The bottom line is that training and development is the best way and that is difficult given the financial constraints of our League.

I think until the officiating is done by robots you will always have the human elements of mistakes.

And lets face it, that wouldn't be any fun!! We would miss out on some great chants through our home games!!

I for one welcome our new robot overlords, er, I mean refs...

Seriously, the officiating was pretty good at the beginning of the year and then seemed to slide downhill. I do not think anyone expects the refs to be perfect but we would love to see some consistency on both sides of the field. I imagine it frustrates the teams as much as the fans when one team can get away with something for a whole game while the other team cannot.

What kinds of training do they get, and is there any responsibility for when they consistently blow the same call?

Similar to Robb's comment, is the officiating crew given any sort of review of their performance for each game? Something like this is implemented in the NFL where each game is reviewed and I was wondering if the NLL does the same.
