Steve,

With a team like the mammoth who have plenty of veterans on the club, how do you play out the balancing act of bringing in fresh young talent (besides the draft) without ripping a championship caliber team to shreds?

I see plenty of other teams who are championship caliber go to rebuilding years instantly.

I ask this cause the Mammoth seem like they dont know what a rebuilding year is, and are constant contenders

Balancing new talent as well as established, well healed, veterans is always a challenge. Honestly, it is a well calculated gamble, sometimes you win and sometimes you don't.

Bill Hall, our Assistant GM, Gary Gait, and myself spend a great deal of time discussing our situation and the future. What do we need and how do we get it. It is a constant process of evaluation and moves or changes that are made now can be very future oriented.

Gary has a great system and the players beleive in the system and the strength of the chemistry in the locker room. They know that we as GM's have a role to play as do the coaches. Our role is to get the best possible talent for them to play with, they understand our role and beleive in us as we beleive in them to execute the plan and the system.

All of the credit really belongs with the players, they are the ones that ultimately have to get it done. Credit to the new guys for fitting in quickly and playing well and credit to the veterans for not allowing new players to distract them from their roles while the young guys work to fit in.
