Getting to Know The Wild Bunch Dancers

9/28/2017

The start of the Mammoth's 2017-18 season will be here before we know it, and as excited as we already were to return to the turf, catching up with the Wild Bunch this week gave us even more game-day excitement.

This weekend, on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1, the Wild Bunch are hosting their auditions at Pepsi Center. Though busy with workshops and audition preparation, veteran Wild Bunch dancers, Biz, Sam, Sara and Julia sat down with us to answer a few questions from our fans.

What advice do you wish someone would have given you before you first auditioned for the Wild Bunch?

Biz

To have more confidence in myself and not watch or worry what the other dancers looked like. My first year I was so stressed about how good everyone else was that I lost almost all faith in myself until the final day when I pulled myself together and gave myself a little pep talk! Believe in yourself!

Sam

To be yourself. You'll never have a better audition than when you go in knowing who you are, what you bring to the table, and just having fun.

Sara

It is okay to mess up. As long as you keep performing with a smile on your face, and dance with all that you have, the judges will love you.

Julia

During my first audition for the Wild Bunch I was very focused on having a perfect audition, without any hiccups. The truth, of course, is that no one will ever have a perfect audition. Everyone will have some sort of hiccup or unexpected obstacle, and the best you can do is just roll with the punches and not be too hard on yourself. If I had known that my first time around, I would have been able to soak up the fun and enjoy the process with a lot less stress.

What is the best part of becoming part of the Wild Bunch family?

Biz

The best part is that you get to do what you love with the people you love and support the team we love! The Wild Bunch really is a family there's never a dull moment with these girls!

Sam

I can't list just one thing! Being a part of the Wild Bunch has been such a huge goal of mine for a long time, so just to be able to represent the Colorado Mammoth as a dancer is amazing. Whether that be at an appearances mingling with the community or at a home game meeting all of the amazing fans!

Sara

The best part about getting to be part of the Wild Bunch family are the friendships you make along the way. You end up spending so much time with the young women on the team, that the bonds are unlike any other. We see each other at our absolute best and worst, but everything we experience, we experience together. Through thick and thin, we will always be there for each other, and that is an unbeatable feeling.

Julia

The best part of becoming part of the Wild Bunch family has been the friendships I have made. My teammates are truly my best friends, and the bond I have made with so many of our wonderful fans has been priceless.

What has been your favorite dance routine so far?

Biz

My favorite routine was "play that sax" from last season! So sassy!

Sam

I would have to say our routine with Wooly! The crowd loved it and it was so much fun getting to watch him shake it on the field as a Wild Bunch!

Sara

My favorite routines have been LBDT, Welcome to the Jungle, and I'm So Sorry.

Julia

So far, my absolute favorite dance routine has been "Girls, girls, girls." The dance and song perfectly defines the style and energy of our games. The routine has a classic rock n roll feel, and I think we all felt like rockstars performing it.

What has been your favorite Mammoth game moment?

Biz

My favorite Mammoth game moment is hands down the whole Lacrosse Out Cancer game! Just the whole night was such an amazing experience! I loved when we dedicated halftime to children in attendance struggling with cancer and gave them the Mammoth signed jerseys! The video they played made me weep like baby but it was such a beautiful night! I'll never forget it!

Sam

I will never forget my very first game. We have such a fun energy at Pepsi Center and being on our field representing the Colorado Mammoth was a first time feeling you can never describe or get back!

Sara

The first time I got to dance at a game. Between riding out onto the field on the back of a motorcycle and experiencing the energy of the crowd while down on the turf, there is no describing the amount of adrenaline at that moment.

Julia

My all time favorite Mammoth game moment has to be Lacrosse Out Cancer Night. I had the privilege of giving one of the honorees her signed jersey. This moment was particularly emotional, and I felt so proud to be a part of it.

What is something fans should know about the Wild Bunch that they may not know already?

Biz

The amount of blood, sweat, and tears that goes into a minute and thirty second routine is unreal. We really do work really hard at our practices to get those dances PERFECT for all the Mammoth fans!

Sam

How much work we put into our team in every aspect. Our coach holds us to a very high standard on and off of the field, so not only are we working hard during practices, but we're making sure that everything we do outside of Wild Bunch positively reflects the Mammoth organization.

Sara

Every single time we step onto the field we are just as anxious and excited as the very first game.

Julia

Something the fans might not know about the Wild Bunch, is that being a part of this team is a total dream. Every time we step out on the field, all of our hard work pays off and seeing the crowd in front of us is the most wild, special, and epic feeling a dancer can get. Go Mammoth!

Thank you Biz, Sam, Sara and Julia for giving us a sneek peek into what it’s like to be dancer in the Wild Bunch!
