On Monday, the Colorado Mammoth announced the signing of two defensemen, Brad Self and Greg Downing. Both Self and Downing return to Colorado after bolstering a team defense, which allowed 199 goals against, the lowest in the National Lacrosse League in 2017.
“Keeping our defense intact is crucial to our continued success.” said Colorado Mammoth General Manager, Dan Carey. “Our defense is made up of a great group of guys who play well together. Brad and Greg add a veteran presence and a lot of energy to our group.”
“Colorado is such a great organization and it is an honor to wear the Mammoth jersey,” said Self, who was acquired at last season’s trade deadline. “I look forward to beginning the season with the team, and competing for our ultimate goal of winning a championship.”
Self was the recipient of the National Lacrosse League’s Transition Player of the Year award in 2016, and Downing won the Dave Stilley award last season as the Mammoth’s Defensive Player of the Year.
“I could not be more excited to suit up for another season with the Mammoth,“ said Downing, who finished 9th in the National Lacrosse League in caused turnovers. “I look forward to getting back to work with this team as we look to build off of last year’s season and make a run at the Champion’s Cup.”
