Mammoth Opens Camp on High Note
Colorado Mammoth training camp began on a high note this past weekend at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario as the team opened its preseason with an 11-6 victory over the Minnesota Swarm. The Mammoth, which saw its season come to a screeching halt with a loss to the Swarm in the West Division Semifinals in May, drew some level of redemption on Saturday night.
Forty players, vying for 23 spots on the team’s roster, donned jerseys featuring Mammoth tusks throughout the weekend. The training camp squad included reigning National Lacrosse League MVP John Grant Jr., reigning NLL Rookie of the Year Adam Jones, and team captain Gavin Prout. But it was second-year forward Jordan McBride who stole the offensive show, leading the team with a hat trick.
Draft picks Colton Clark and Jaeden Gastaldo each scored in their Mammoth debuts, while Colorado’s defense and goaltending stood strong.
“I was really happy with the level of play and fitness of our team,” said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley. “Our staff has some tough [personnel] decisions to make. We’re excited about moving forward to Langley.”
Colorado returns to the turf this weekend in British Columbia. The Mammoth takes on the arch-rival Calgary Roughnecks at Langley Events Centre on Saturday, December 8 at 8:00pm MST. Tickets are on sale now.
