Mammoth Forward Prout Voted Team Captain

Prout

The Colorado Mammoth announced today that forward Gavin Prout, who was the team’s captain from 2006-2009, was voted by teammates and coaches to once again don the captain’s ‘C’ on his chest. Forward John Grant Jr., who served as an assistant captain in 2011, will share that honor with defenseman Jon Sullivan, an off-season acquisition.

“Gavin led the team to the Champion’s Cup in 2006, and knows the privilege and responsibilities associated with being the captain,” said Mammoth Head Coach Bob Hamley. “I expect that Gavin and the assistants, as well as other veterans, will serve as great leaders to the rest of team.”

"This honor's a pretty big one for me in particular with this new team," said Prout. "Being voted for, as opposed to being appointed, means a lot..."

The team’s all-time leader in career points (540) in a Mammoth uniform, Prout has appeared in 102 regular-season games and nine playoff games with Colorado. He is currently just two points shy of 800 for his career, and was re-acquired by the Mammoth from the Edmonton Rush on March 15, 2011 via trade.

Grant, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest lacrosse players of all-time, is just 23 points shy of 1,000 and 31 goals from 500 for his career. The former National Lacrosse League MVP led the Mammoth in goals (36), assists (47), and points (83) in his first season with the team in 2011.

Sullivan, a 29-year-old St. Catharine’s, Ontario native, was one of three players acquired by the Mammoth from the Minnesota Swarm in a September trade. A gold-medal winner at the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships with Team Canada, Sullivan has appeared in 104 career NLL games, all with the Swarm.

The Colorado Mammoth opens the 2012 season against the Minnesota Swarm on “Brian Langtry Night” this Saturday, January 14 at 7pm MST on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center. Single-game tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
