Grant, Jones Win NLL Player of the Month Awards

Mammoth forwards John Grant Jr. and Adam Jones have been named the National Lacrosse League’s Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for their performances in January. Grant was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week twice already this season, and Jones picked up Rookie of the Week honors following Week #3.
“John and Adam showed that they’re a lethal, one-two punch,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. “They both had exceptional individual efforts all month.”
Grant leads the NLL in goals (16), assists (21) and points (37), and led or shared the team lead in all three offensive categories in every game this season. On pace for a record-shattering 148 points [NLL single-season record is 115], the 37-year-old registered the 1,000th point of his career in Calgary on January 21.
“Being 4-0 is most important,” said Grant. “The fact that I’m recognized as the Player of the Month means I’m helping the team win.”
Jones, the third-overall pick in September’s NLL Entry Draft, leads all rookies in goals (12) and points (22), and is second in assists (10). The 22-year-old’s goal total ranks third league-wide, and his 22 points are tied for fourth. Having spent much of the off-season recovering from a knee injury, the Canisius College alumnus has immediately become an impact player.
“My goal was to come in, find a role, and just help our team,” said Jones. “To have this [award] and also be 4-0, I couldn’t ask for a better start.”
The Mammoth is off to its best start since 2008 when the team began the season 5-0. Colorado looks to match the franchise record this Saturday at Pepsi Center as it hosts the Edmonton Rush, a team it defeated in Alberta by a goal on January 20. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
