Mammoth Re-Acquires Shewchuk at Trade Deadline
One year ago, the Colorado Mammoth was busy on the trade deadline day, re-acquiring team captain Gavin Prout and adding several other players. A year later, it’s a case of déjà vu. The West-Division-leading Mammoth (8-2) has re-acquired another fan-favorite: forward Jamie Shewchuk.
“We have the best record in the National Lacrosse League, but there are always ways to improve your team,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. “Jamie is a talented scorer. He will add some much-needed depth on the left side. It’s great to have him back.”
Colorado initially traded Shewchuk to the Minnesota Swarm in February, 2011 for forward Tim Campeau and a second-round pick in this past year’s NLL Entry Draft. To re-acquire the left-hander, Colorado gave Minnesota a third-round selection in the 2013 draft, pending league approval.
Shewchuk, 26, has 295 career points and is the fourth all-time in Mammoth history in goals (109), assists (142) and points (251). The Edmonton, AB native, who now lives in Colorado, was originally a second-round pick of the Mammoth in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. He is currently on Injured Reserve and can be activated on March 31.
In a match-up of first-place teams, the Mammoth will clinch a playoff berth this Friday, March 23 with a win over the East-Division-leading Philadelphia Wings (6-4). The game will take place on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center at 7pm MT. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
