Grant Jr. Wins Second NLL Award in Three Weeks
The National Lacrosse League announced today that Mammoth forward John Grant Jr., the league’s 2012 MVP, has been named the NLL Offensive Player of the Week, marking his second such honor in the last three weeks.
Grant’s offensive production helped the Mammoth secure its first home win of the season last Saturday in a 15-9 victory over the Minnesota Swarm.
“It was a great win, and we were finally able to give Colorado fans something to cheer about at home,” said Grant. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum going this weekend in Washington.”
Grant finished the game with five goals and six assists on Saturday. He currently leads the NLL with 17 goals scored, despite having played in fewer games than any of the other top-five goal-scorers.
“Jr. had a great week – obviously the stats don’t lie there,” said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley. “From a coach’s standpoint, he did a lot of great things off-ball and set some great picks for other goals as well. I’m very proud of him.”
In 2012, Grant was a four-time recipient of the NLL Offensive Player of the Week award and a three-time Player of the Month. Grant finished the 2012 season with four 10-point performances.
Colorado visits the Washington Stealth this Saturday in a rematch of Opening Night before returning home to take on the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, February 16 at 7pm MST on Military Appreciation Night. Single-game tickets to all remaining Mammoth home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
