GEAR STILL MISSING, BUT TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOUND
On the eve of the West Division Semifinal, the gear of Colorado Mammoth goaltender Dillon Ward is still missing. However, the team has found a temporary solution that will allow the star rookie to play in Saturday’s game against Calgary.
The Vancouver Stealth, one of several NLL teams to contact Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett since the news broke yesterday evening, has offered up a set of its gear for Ward to wear.
“It’s a relief,” said Govett. “Obviously we wish this never happened, and we wish Ward could wear what he feels comfortable in. But, I’m incredibly thankful to [Stealth president & general manager] Doug Locker, and to the others who reached out, for the generous offer. We owe him one!”
Mammoth forward Athan Iannucci, who will fly from Vancouver to Calgary early this afternoon, will pick up the gear from the Stealth offices on his way to the airport. He played for the franchise from 2012-2013.
While Vancouver was among a host of teams that attempted to come to the rescue, Colorado’s playoff opponent, the Calgary Roughnecks, were not.
The win-and-advance opening round of the playoffs is this Sat., May 3 at 7pm MT. The Mammoth is hosting a free watch party at Pepsi Center. Fans must RSVP to attend.
