Saturday's Match-Up Features NLL's Elite from 2012
In the 2012 regular season, Colorado and Calgary were the NLL’s elite. The Roughnecks finished with a league-best 12-4 mark; the Mammoth won 11 games.
One year ago, the arch-rivals both won on Opening Night. This year, both lost.
On Saturday, January 19th, the rivalry is renewed at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary at 7pm MST.
“Coaches don’t like losing and we are no different than [Calgary],” said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley. “We thought we made a lot of mistakes [last weekend]. We have talked already about improving each week and we have to get much better than we were on Saturday.”
Colorado dropped a 17-13 affair to Washington at Pepsi Center in the season opener. Calgary succumbed to Toronto, 13-11, at home.
“Being able to look at our accountability, the guys understand exactly what we expect as coaches,” said Roughnecks head coach Curt Malawsky. “From a discipline standpoint, we have had [discipline issues] for the last three years and it carried over to the first game. I’m very confident that we have a good character bunch of guys and they know the ramifications.”
“[Colorado] lost their first game too and they haven’t had that much success against us,” said Calgary Roughnecks forward Shawn Evans. “They are going to have that in their heads so we need to be ready and focus and [we’ve] just got to run our game plan.”
With the Mammoth looking for its first ‘W’ of the 2013 season, Colorado forward Gavin Prout recognizes the pride and determination of his team after a solid 4th quarter push last Saturday.
“We were down by [eight] goals going into the 4th quarter and we made it a game,” said the Captain. “Our offense was clicking a little bit more and getting used to each other after a year off, and that’s something to build on.”
Saturday’s game will be broadcast live online on The NLL Network on YouTube. The game will re-air on Altitude Sports & Entertainment, the most-watched regional sports television network in the Rockies, on Monday, January 21 at 12:30pm MST.
The teams will meet again next Friday, January 25 on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center at 7pm MST. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
