A ‘MAMMOTH’ CELEBRATION OF FIRST 100 HOME GAMES
Fresh off its first bye week of the season, the Colorado Mammoth welcomes the two-time defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks to HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center this Sat., Mar. 1 at 7pm MT. Given the Mammoth’s front-loaded schedule, the week off was much-needed.
“It’s been a good opportunity to get rested up, recover from bumps and bruises, and actually put in some good training shifts,” said forward John Grant Jr. “Going up to Red Rocks [Amphitheatre] to work out this past Saturday was good to get things going.”
The Mammoth, which will celebrate its first 100 home games during Saturday’s contest, had won three straight games before a Valentine’s Day loss at the hands of the Vancouver Stealth.
“We talked about it going into the game that Vancouver was going to play desperate,” said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley. “Their backs were definitely against the wall, and now ours are. We have to play that way. We have to play with desperation, (and) we have to play with some urgency.”
This weekend, Hamley’s crew will have to find a way to solve Rochester’s Matt Vinc, the only three-time Goaltender of the Year in NLL history.
“He’ll eat things up from outside,” said Hamley. “We have to do a really good job of getting inside and making our shots count because he is one of the best.”
Vinc, who never played for the Mammoth, was actually property of the organization following the 2010 season. On October 27 of that year, he was shipped to Rochester in exchange for Grant in one of the biggest trades in league history. On Saturday, they square off in an inter-division match-up.
Tickets to the game are on sale now at the Pepsi Center Box Office, all Altitude Tickets outlets, online at AltitudeTickets.com, or by phone at 866.461.6556.
