Steve,
I'm not sure if you can tell us or not, but why was Prout only signed to a 1 year contract, while several other players have been signed for 3 years? Was this something that he requested? Is Prout part of the Mammoth's long term plans?
Thanks! |

Gavin Prout is represented by an agent that doesn't see the necessity of him signing a contract for a longer term than one year. In the NLL players are the property of the team until they are eligible for free agency, are released or are traded. Gavin isn't close to any one of those situations with the Mammoth so I fully expect him to be with the team for a very long time.
Contracts in the NLL have traditionally been year to year and everyone has been very comfortable with that. With the new collective bargaining agreement being a much longer term players and GM's are seeking longer term opportunities to create stability within the league. We are still seeing resistance among some because of the opportunity they see in one year contracts.
Of course Gavin is part of our long term plans and he remains a great leader on our team. He is still our captain and will remain in that capacity far into the forseeable future.
Hope this answers the question.
